Who pediatric skilled nursing is for
Skilled nursing is designed for children under 21 whose medical needs go beyond what personal-care support alone can safely provide. These are children who depend on medical technology, complex medication schedules, or continuous clinical monitoring to stay stable at home.
Common diagnoses we support include cerebral palsy, spina bifida, seizure disorders, chronic respiratory conditions, congenital heart conditions, feeding disorders, and children recovering from surgery or a lengthy hospital stay.

How our nurse-led care works
Care begins with a registered nurse visiting your home to complete a full assessment and build a plan around your child's physician orders, daily routine, and your family's preferences. That plan is a living document — we review and adjust it as your child's needs change.
Your child is matched with a consistent nurse or small nursing team, so the people at your kitchen table actually know your child's baseline, their cues, and what a good day looks like. Behind them stands a supervising RN and a care coordinator you can reach whenever a question comes up.
Skilled nursing and the GAPP program
Most families we serve qualify for the Georgia Pediatric Program (GAPP), a Medicaid program that covers in-home skilled nursing for medically fragile children at no cost to the family. Our team handles the paperwork — gathering physician orders, documentation of medical necessity, and Medicaid details — and submits everything for you.
Approval typically takes about 30 days, and there is no waitlist at BrightStars: once your child is approved, care can begin right away.
